Testing the maturity of usability-engineering processes for compliance with ISO 13407




What is this activity about?   A process assessment is conducted based on the DATech test handbook for compliance testing of usability-engineering processes with ISO 13407. The core of the assessment is to identify relevant deficiencies for improvement of a manufacturer's usability-engineering process. The test starts with a self-assessment. Further tests accompany the iterate improvement process until a mature process is reached and the conformity with ISO 13407 can be certified. Any deviation from this standard indicates a risk for the quality of the process, which ultimately is a risk for quality of the product.
How does it work?   Subject of the process test is a manufacturer's typical development project. The process test provides test criteria, which the project is tested against.
What is the result?   Defects of a product can be traced back to shortcomings of the usability-engineering process. According to this relationship the test recommends measures of process improvement that directly contribute to an improvement of products. A mature process can be recommended for becoming certified.
