User tests in the usability laboratory

A usability laboratory is typically expected to be located in a special room including equipment that can typically be seen in a research institute. Users get invited to visit the institute in order to participate in the tests in the lab.

Our usability lab is portable. Nowadays, the quality of a lab does not depend so much on stationary equipment. It rather depends on the software tools that support a cost-effective acquisition of relevant data as well as the quality of their subsequent analyses. Bringing the portable lab to the users into their natural environment turns out to be cheaper and provides more authentic observational data. On-site observation is focused on the relevant on-site user problems, which can be captured real-time, but can be analyzed by the usability specialists on their own time later on.

Our service   We investigate innovative products or product features. Various user target groups are addressed. The analysis sheds light on sense or nonsense of a feature. Useful features are optimized and initial learning steps in using the product can be minimized. Last but not least the product is tested against international standards such as ISO 9241.

Your benefits   The manufacturer obtains valuable information about troubles with the usage of a product. The test report reveals the defects and what may have caused them. The method we apply gives insight into the cause-and-effect chain, so as to avoid erroneous trends in an ongoing development project.
