Test and evaluation procedures for interactive products

Testing the usability of products for compliance with ISO 9241 part 10 and 11

What is this activity about?   This test is the world-wide first Standard Usability Test based on International Standards. In Germany a number of accredited usability test laboratories have adopted this test to provide services to development projects. Though the test can be applied at the end of a project, for instance, as an acceptance test, it is highly recommended that the test should be run during the early phases of a project, since it then serves the purpose of avoiding usability defects.

How does it work?   Any trouble in using a product (or service) indicates that something is wrong with the usability of the product. Sometimes the product's context of use needs to be adapted. The Standard Usability Test helps to identify the defects and what has caused them. Any defect needs to be analyzed for its impact or severity. Sometimes, a defect turns out to be tolerable, because it does not impact the user. However, severe violations of the usability standards need to be identified in terms of product improvements.

What is the result?   There is no product that is 100% truly free of any defect. Our test report provides a survey of all defects and a prioritization their severity. Dealing with severe defects more seriously minimizes the risk of developing a product that does not stand the market.
